Gretchen Mills (Yoga instructor & Ayurvedic Practitioner…and soon to be Doctor!)
-
Since 2005 I have studied and taught Yoga with the intention of strengthening my own foundation and to share these teachings with others in a way that is most meaningful for the greater good. My personal studies are focused on the science of breathing, Ayurveda, ashtanga and hatha yoga, meditation, and the daily practices that bring the many layers of self into balance. Currently I am attending school at Sai Ayurvedic Institute and am enrolled in the program for Doctor of Ayurvedic Medicine. In addition, I study breath and its powerful effects on the nervous system, cognitive functions, emotions, and the inner communications that are the foundation to our health as a whole.

Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the world's oldest medical systems and remains one of India's traditional health care systems, but it is not merely a system of medicine, it is a way of life.
Ayurveda aims at determining an individual's personal constitution (dosha), which is based on the unique combination of elements in your body. Your dosha will influence how you live in the world through your physical make up, the way you think, the way you move, talk, express yourself, and all components that make you, you. Through the study of food, herbs, daily and seasonal rhythms, and gentle cleansing of the body and mind Ayurveda supports the whole being in returning to balance.
The practices are aimed at improving digestion, nourishing the tissues, and understanding imbalance in the body and mind before it begins to create disease. Ayurveda looks deep into the quality of a specific food to understand how it will process in your unique body.
The qualities of food are based on how the specific food will heat or cool the body as well as the taste (or raja). The 5 rajas; sweet, salty, bitter, astringent, and pungent will positively or adversely effect an individual's health based on their constitution (dosha). When we eat for our constitution, we create the most fuel efficient system which nourishes all of the tissues and reduces and prevents the build up of toxins in the body.
-
Consultations typically run between 1 hour and 15 minutes and 1 hour and 30 minutes. We will focus on determining your constitution (prakruti) and how your prakruti has shifted (vikruti) due to the many influences of life that challenge our bodies and minds. This knowledge base is invaluable and will intelligently guide you through the changing of seasons and th chapters of life and aging.
Rachel Ann (Yoga & Reiki instructor)
-
Having experimented in and out of yoga studies for many years before a physical accident left her doctors telling her she would not be the same physically active individual she once was, Rachel turned deeper to the studies of yoga and found not only the strength and ability to heal and overcome her injuries but a much deeper understanding of life.
-
Rachel will guide you with a gentle progression towards a much deeper understanding of yoga, yourself, your relation to your world around you, as well as the one you carry within. Rachel strongly believes that to practice yoga one doesn’t have to be bendy, thin, balanced or young to begin.
Acquaint yourself with your “Self” using gentle movement (asana), breath-work (prana), yogic philosophy, and stillness (meditation). Total awareness of the body provides a means to assess densities, deficiencies, inflexibility, blockages or other needs. Total focus on you, letting go of all the external influences, can bring expansion in every portion of your life- your energy levels, your strength levels, your attitude, your awareness and much more. This change of perspective can spiral outward into the other aspects of your life, imparting greater awareness of parts of you that you may not have noticed before. The practice of yoga can bring you all encompassing ease and peace as you go about your typical day.
Brooks (Yoga instructor)
-
Brooks Fraser's beloved journey with yoga began twenty years ago at The Yoga Room in Astoria, Queens with Hot Yoga and Vinyasa. What she discovered there was that movement through asana and connecting to the breath was the gateway to mind-expanding and life-changing lessons. She completed her first teacher training there in 2006 in Hot Core Power Yoga. Instructor Wesley Collier was a true inspiration and motivator. Brooks has been so fortunate to practice at incredible New York City studios over the years, namely Laughing Lotus and Yogamaya (where owner/teacher Bryn Chrisman was a huge influence). In 2017, she began attending regular classes at the Kadampa Meditation Center in Manhattan under the direction of Resident Teacher/National Spiritual Director, Kadam Morten. Brooks completed her 200 Hour Certification in Hatha Yoga and Ayurveda with Gretchen Mills at High Peaks Yoga and Ayurveda in Lake Placid in early 2023 with a full heart.
-
Brooks looks forward to continuing on this path of intention as she leads classes with the unshakeable belief that yoga and meditation is for everybody and every body. She is dedicated to expanding her knowledge of yoga, meditation, breathwork, mindfulness and spirituality and looks forward to sharing that with the community. She has a deep awareness that a meaningful connection to nature is also an important part of this journey and looks for creative ways to incorporate that in both her practice and teaching. As a runner, Brooks has completed countless races between 5k and ten miles, 14 half marathons and will run her second marathon this November in New York City. She knows firsthand how integral yoga asana is as a companion to other physical activities. Also a certified sommelier, Brooks is acutely aware of how a dedicated yogic practice goes far beyond the mat and has complemented her 25+ year career in hospitality.
Come bend with Brooks!
